The MV19 (MV stands for ‘Motoscafo Veloce’) is a tribute to Baglietto’s long history of building high-performance military boats—a heritage that continues with its new military division and the waterjet-powered FFC 15 patrol boat. Generations before the the word 'superyacht' was even coined, boats built by Baglietto saw action on the water during the two World Wars.

In particular, the torpedo and anti-submarine patrol boats known by the moniker MAS (Motoscafo Anti Sommergibili), commissioned by the Italian Navy, were armed with torpedoes and depth charges. Their wartime exploits became the stuff of legend.

The 19.5m MV19 is the larger cousin of the MV13, the first of which was launched in 2015 for Lapo Elkann, the grandson of Gianni Agnelli. The limited series was one of the first commissions for the designer Francesco Paszkowski after Benjamino Gavio acquired the Baglietto brand in 2012, and like her predecessor Ridoc reinterprets key features of the original MAS in a modern style.

The Baglietto technical office is responsible for the hull, systems and propulsion design. The deep-V hull ensures good seakeeping and manoeuvrability,  while the  twin MAN V12 1800hp engines can power the boat along at a top speed of 40 knots—the kind of performance you would expect from a boat inspired by fast patrol boats.

The retro exterior styling is by again by Paszkowski, who worked with Margherita Casprini on the interior design. The fittings are in Canaletto walnut with white lacquered walls and dark oak floors, and although not technically a superyacht, the finish throughout is definitely superyacht quality. The result is a beautifully accessorised boat with the audio-visual and satellite systems of larger yachts and a decisive character on the inside that reflects her sporty exterior and dashing red load line.

The MV19 is primarily a day boat, but features a master cabin forward and two guests cabins with ensuite bathroom amidships for overnight cruising. In between there is a spacious open dinette and a well-equipped galley. The owner also requested a captain’s cabin with direct access from the exterior.

Ridoc will make her debut at the 2017 Cannes Yachting Festival.
