First photos: Staluppi yacht Spectre in build at Benetti
Spectre, the ninth James Bond-inspired yacht commissioned by John Staluppi, is taking shape in Italy at the Benetti yard ahead of a planned 2018 completion date.
This 69 metre superyacht features naval architecture by Mulder Design, continuing a near 30-year partnership between the Dutch studio and Staluppi that dates all the way back to the 1988 launch of Octopussy at Heesen Yachts.
Formerly known as Hull FB 269, Spectre boasts an exterior penned by Giorgio Cassetta working in collaboration with the in-house Benetti design team.
As these behind-the-scenes images show, the steel hull and aluminium superstructure are largely complete. Extensive noise and vibration reduction work has taken place and the entire project is being built to ABS standards.
Mulder Design revealed that one of the key requirements for this project was a maximum draft of 3.2 metres as the owner wants to cruise in the Bahamas.
Further details are being kept under wraps for now, but the seven large rectangular portholes in the bow suggest a palatial owner’s cabin.
What’s more, it is understood that her powertrain will consist of a pair of MTU 12V 4000 M93L engines. These will deliver a top speed of 21.2 knots and an impressive range of 6,5000 nautical miles when Spectre is trimmed back to her cruising speed of 12 knots.
Other notable superyachts currently under construction at the Benetti yard include the 63 metre Project Balance, which is being built on speculation ahead of a planned 2018 launch date.
